David Jacobs’

4.5” SCALE BURRELL

AGRICULTURAL ENGINE

This 4.5” to the foot scale (1:2.66) Burrell agricultural single engine is an impressive first project from Dave Jacobs, assisted by Nick Hall. It was completed from Plastow and Lion plans in just 18 months plus another six for “fettling and refinements”.

They report: “After buying a milling machine, lathe and various tooling we decided that a Burrell from castings (not a kit) would be our first project. As we had no previous steam experience we added a few ideas of our own.

“Castings and some fittings were sourced via the internet and word of mouth. All of the castings were unused from the 80s made by Lion engineering, nearly everything else has been hand made.

“Everything works including the governor and steam water lifter.

“It has been very rewarding if taxing experience and we would like to thank all those who answered our many questions.”
