This superb David Brown tractor and attachments were shown by Peter Evans at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition. Peter bought the tractor already built and then set about a vast amount of work, which continues, to bring it more into line with the original, especially the hydraulics.
Peter also built a 3-furrow ride-on plough, and then embarked on the two-furrow disc plough in the photos. Disc ploughs have not been popular in the UK, and these days are mostly made in China, so a lot of research went into the model design, mainly on the internet. After looking at many versions, Peter made it to his own design, taking the best points from different designs.
The mounted scuffle (painted in blue) is also to Peter’s own design, based on a full-sized version he made some years ago. It is used for seed bed preparation. The first set of rigid tines break up the soil for the second set of spring tines which break the soil down further. A rear crumbler gives a level, even finish. These were used after ploughing in the past, but modern versions today with four-wheel drive and increased horse power, ploughing is dispensed with.
