LUCY - OSCILLATING STEAM ENGINE

By Julius de Waal

Another interesting steam engine from Julius de Waal, this one making unusual use of Plexiglass, one of the trade names for the transparent plastic also called acrylic glass. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) acrylic or acrylic glass goes by the trade names Plexiglas, Acrylite, Lucite, and Perspex among others. It is mainly used as a transparent thermoplastic shatter-resistant alternative to glass, but also finds many uses in model engineering.
