Ornate Reeve Regulator

Not a model this time, but a fine piece of engineering craftsmanship. This clock is to the design of the late Claude B Reeve, based on a clock by Pickering at the headquarters of the British Horological Institute. The design has since been updated by John Wilding. Described as a ‘regulator’ it has thin plates and should probably be called a ‘timepiece’ to be precise. Even so the clock is designed to be accurate, and it is. The clock has a dead beat escapement of the French type with adjustable nibs and pallets. It is fitted with power maintaining spring, and has a carbon fibre pendulum rod to cope with temperature change. This example, pictured at the Bristol Show, is by Hywel Lambert. Some hundreds of saw blades were used in fretting out the ornate clock plates.
