Russell in 7 ¼ in gauge
Model of the well-known Welsh Highland Railway 1ft 11 ½ in gauge 2-6-2 locomotive built by Hunslet in 1906. Built by Walter Scott over a seven year period. Walter started with the Ross Harrison design for 3 ½ in gauge and scaled it up to 7 ¼.
The only castings used are for the cylinders and steam brake, everything else is either fabricated or machine from solid metal.
The original locomotive is now undergoing complete restoration to be returned to original condition. It started life on what is now the Welsh Highland but was fitted with a lower cab and chimney in 1924 to suit Ffestiniog lines. It was requisitioned for war work in 1942, and after the war was moved to a Dorset clay mine. It was rescued in 1955 and returned to Wales.
