One of the finest models of recent times, and which has generously been exhibited in full working order at several recent UK exhibitions is Roddy Turner’s dragline. In full size these mighty machines shift thousands of tonnes of rock a day. It is an unusual subject for a model and as such creates interest everywhere it goes. The fact that it is also always working, add to the interest, as do the uncannily realistic scale rocks. The model is driven by Roddy from a reproduction of the full-size chair and operating console. A live video completes the outstanding display. The model is of a Ruston-Bucyrus 1260-W electric walking dragline built to a scale of 1:76. We hope to have a fuller article on this stunning Gold Medal winning model on this website in the Spring.
