THE ROYAL COACHES
THE ROYAL COACHES
Peter G Smith has modelled a number of the coaches housed in the Royal Mews in Buckingham Palace. Each took around two years to complete from photos and drawings made by Peter. These are coachbuilding at its finest, at the miniature level. Wood, thin glass, leather, brass, steel and silk are all used. Painting is done by hand using a brush, just like the originals. Lining and coats of arms are done by hand and the finished piece is give many coats of varnish. These exquisite models have won literally dozens of medals and cups. Those pictured here are, clockwise: The Irish State Coach, The Scottish State Coach, Queen Alexandra State Coach, King Edward VII Town Coach, 1902 State Landau, State Sledge, Prince Philip’s Park Drag, and the State Landau.
