There is something very appealing about building a lathe. A number of designs have been published, including Guenter Kallies’ German type lathe which was published on MEWS a while back and the tiny but comprehensive design by the late Len Mason, among others. The small lathe here was built by Stephen Forge and displayed at the Bristol Exhibition in 2014. Rather more sophisticated than the average home build, it incorporates a double V-bed and neat gearbox.
