TRACTION ENGINE
Colin Lines built this model, pictured on display at the 2014 Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition, from drawings made from measurements taken from the last surviving Savage traction engine, built in 1889, during many visits over a period of years. The original, AH 5955, is pictured below. The model is in 1:8 scale.
Savage was best known for its fairground equipment, but also produced this single cylinder general purpose engine rated at 7NHP. Savage also produced the Little Samson steam tractor, popular with model engineers thanks to the designs of Edward George in 3,4 and 6” scale.
