Finally finished the turret roof.
Added a stainless plate to the rear of the recoil bracket so that later on I could bolt a lump of metal below it to act as a counterweight to the barrel.
I started final assembly and painting by prepping the turret for paint and zimmeritt. I fitted the turret spare track links to mark their position and leave the lower bracket in place.
Fitted also the lower brackets of the turret bin.
Next was the escape hatch. Good thing I tried this because I found that with the parts painted, it did not fit anymore to the turret. I always fall for it. A little fettling and a touch up of the paint solved it.
Took a deep breath and did all the zimmeritt on the turret wrap. Everything went as planned and all the preparation I did was a great help. I cleaned it up a little by removing some excesses and giving it a light sanding. All but one of the spare track links still fitted perfectly. The other one needed some light fettling of the zim to make it fit.
That was a big load off my mind.
Started to loose interest in the build. It happens to me every time a project takes a lot of time to finish, so I am accustomed to it. What I do is do very short spells (30 - 45 mins) in the workshop.
Next thing I need to do is the turret roof weld seams. Did an experiment. Placed some kitchen cling film between the turret roof and turret wrap so that the milliput will not adhere to the turret roof.
Let the milliput set for about an hour and then removed the turret roof and then the cling film.
